Keynote Speaker
The originally planned keynote speaker was unfortunately unable to make it due to the copious amounts of snow affecting his flight. However, his remarks were delivered by a stand-in. The text of this presentation has been attached to this article, although a summary is given below.
The primary thrust of the talk was about the dual citizenship of people between Augustine's "City of God" and the "City of Man". The question then is how do we live our faith and maintain the duties of citizenship in both? What does this imply? Which has priority? The Catholic Church currently needs a few good men, just like the Marines. It is important to become the people the Church needs us to be - that are faithful to the City of God first. Examples were given from the life and works of: Plato, Socrates, and Aristotle; Bl. Pope John Paul the Great & Pope Benedict; and Bl. Franz Jaggerstatter.
